Remember that scene in Ronin when Jean Reno’s character Vincent is being held at gunpoint in that corridor by that opposing mercenary and the guy says “Where do I know you from?” and Vincent says “Vienna” and then the other guy says “Of course!” and we don’t know the professional history they are referring to and then he says something like “Well, I’m sorry to have to do this…” but right before he can kill Vincent Robert De Niro’s character Sam runs in to cover the mercenary from the side and just before Vincent shoots him the guy fires off a round which ricochets off the wall and hits Sam in the ribs and then Sam and Vincent flee to some mountains where that mysterious old man shelters them and tells Sam the legend of the forty-seven ronin, which for the purposes of the movie is a metaphor for all these ex-Cold Warriors who are now working together and/or against one another as mercenaries?
These two cartoons are the that-scene-from-Ronin of this experimental cartooning project.
As far as a one sentence story/retelling composed of 165 words, that one is simply fantastic. The drawings are so vibrantly layered and definitely have ricochet / ripple vibes. 💥🪃💥
